Job Title: Senior Tax Manager
Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business with Concentration in Accounting
Experience: Minimum 15 years

 

Description:

Tax Compliance

  • Perform primary and secondary tax returns reviews, research, and compliance work with an emphasis on calculations, accounting theory and tax law compliance.
  • Break down complicated tax returns into tasks for staff completion.
  • Complete or supervise research on highly complex tax matters and resolve tax issues related to tax compliance.
  • Obtain relevant information from clients for preparation of tax returns.
  • Make decisions regarding filing and preparation and handle questions from federal and state agencies.
  • Prepare complex tax returns, as needed.
  • Keep abreast of tax law changes, filing requirements, and planning opportunities to ensure compliance with tax laws which impact clients.
  • Identify different methods of complying with tax requirements which align with clients' business objectives.
  • Represent clients in tax exams with all issues


Tax Consulting
  • Research complex tax issues using CCH tax research software, BNA tax research software, Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, and other relevant authorities/guidance.
  • Prepare or review tax technical memorandums.
  • Perform or review tax projections, structuring and modeling.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of tax strategies to minimize clients' tax liabilities.
  • Recognize and communicate potential risks and identify potential changes in tax policy.


Accounting
  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
  • Manage, direct, and monitor multiple engagements.
  • Assists the Executive Committee in the development and implementation of standard work paper templates, tools, checklists and other technology to continually improve processes and maximize efficiency.
  • Follow the progress of the assigned engagements by monitoring time budgets and deadlines for adherence.
  • Communicate important developments to the Engagement Partner along with facts, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Consult, work with, and service clients to develop relationship with clients as a business advisor.
  • Participate in or handle client meetings.
  • Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, make sure deadlines are met, controversies are dealt with and lead change efforts effectively.
  • Work closely with Executive Committee as a liaison between staff and clients.
  • Participate in the billing and collection process.
  • Participate in seminars for clients on various tax and business matters.


Business Development
  • Recognize opportunities for providing additional services to clients.
  • Marketing technical specialty or expertise to clients.
  • Develop business by expanding existing relationships with clients; participating in civic, business, and professional organizations.
  • Team with Executive Committee members on proposals and business development calls.
  • Participate with the Executive Committee on strategic planning, and the continual improvement and growth of the business.


Personal and Professional Development
  • Develop challenging personal and client service team goals.
  • Develop specialized knowledge as a Firm expert on one or more tax subjects or industries.
  • Demonstrate sound business judgment.
  • Update job knowledge by tracking and analyzing new legislation; participating in education opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Communicate with others about activities and developments in areas of responsibility.
  • Contribute to Firm results by welcoming new and different work requirements, explore new opportunities to add value to the Firm, help others accomplish related job results as and where needed.
  • Be detail oriented and a self-starter with strong organizational, interpersonal; and written and verbal communication skills who can interact with other internal personnel.


Staff Development
  • Participate in recruiting new staff members.
  • Participate in the acclamation of new staff to FAL, including new staff orientation.
  • Supervise and motivate staff.
  • Play a significant role in the professional development of staff members, including coaching, counseling, resolving problems, evaluating and disciplining staff.
  • Participate in internal training courses or seminars.
  • Mentor staff regarding professional growth and development, work/life balance, interpersonal relationship, continuing education, mastering of software and other pertinent issues.
  • Communicate with others about staff development.


Other
  • Perform special projects and other assignments as directed.
