Description: FAL's Senior Staff Accountants must have at least three years of recent tax and audit experience with a public accounting firm.

Audit Supervisor >> More Info

Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business with Concentration in Accounting
Experience: Minimum 4 years

Position Description and Requirements:

A Supervisor's role covers the same responsibilities and functions as a Senior Accountant, but covers a broader area, including more complex assignments, a more extensive knowledge of accounting and auditing standards and tax regulations applicable to the clients serviced, a more extensive review function, and supervision of more than one engagement simultaneously. A Supervisor has more involvement in business development, staff management and administrative functions.

Accordingly, a Supervisor often functions as a heavily experienced Senior Accountant, but may also assume several "Manager Level" responsibilities.

Accounting
  • Plan, supervise, review and control assigned engagements for compliance with all professional and Firm standards. This includes developing time budgets and fee recommendations; and working with staff and clients to plan engagement objectives and strategies.
  • Perform more difficult or complex testing procedures on engagements as needed.
  • Supervise and review work of staff.
  • Bring unusual or significant accounting/auditing questions to the attention of the manager or partner.
  • Make decisions on routine engagement matters.
  • Understand and research complex accounting and auditing concepts and their application to client situations.
  • Prepare engagement letters, financial statements, representation letters and management letters.
  • Participate in the presentation of financial statements and management letters at exit meetings.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), auditing standards, review and compilations standards and other standards that affect the preparation of financial statements.
  • Demonstrate skill using all accounting software.
Engagement and Client Management
  • Develop a relationship with engagement-related client personnel.
  • Maintain contact with client personnel throughout the year; possess knowledge of the client and the client's business.
  • Assist in the identification of clients' needs.
  • Assist in communicating progress of engagement, problems and resolutions to client.
  • Wrap up engagement according to engagement timetable and monitor engagement budget and alert manager or partner of scheduling or budget concerns.
  • Communicate with appropriate individuals within the Firm on clients assigned in order to keep the Firm informed of all important developments on the engagement.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills, inspire teamwork and responsibility with engagement team members, and use current technology and tools to enhance the effectiveness of deliverables and service.
  • Ability to manage within budgetary and time constraints while providing a high-level of client satisfaction.
  • Anticipating client concerns and escalating problems as they arise.
  • Keeping lines of communication open between staff and clients.
  • Maximize personal charge time and charge time for staff supervised.
  • Maintain a limited knowledge of general economic conditions, political trends and legislative initiatives for their effect on clients.
Business Development
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all tax, audit and consulting services provided by the firm. Link this understanding to potential client needs.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the scope of current engagements through identification of client needs.
  • Maintain and enhance client relations.
Personal and Professional Development
  • If not yet achieved, actively pursues CPA certification by sitting for all scheduled exams.
  • Demonstrate sound business judgment, along with problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate writing, communication, interpersonal and other human relation skills.

  • Bring unusual or significant tax questions to the attention of the manager or partner.
  • Responsible for client adherence to compliance related deadlines such as extension, tax estimate requirements and tax return filings.
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations and other relevant authority sufficient to interpret and apply to transactions.
  • Research tax issues and filing requirements that affect tax compliance.
  • Demonstrate skill using tax software to complete all income tax compliance filings and tax research.
  • Keep abreast of tax law changes, filing requirements, and planning opportunities to ensure compliance with tax laws which impact clients.
